Michael Atkin receiving the award at the event.

We are delighted to announce that Michael Atkin, Site Fuel Engineer at British Steel, has been formally recognised at a celebration event after being named one of the Hull & Humber Top 30 Under 30 Class of 2026 earlier this year.

Michael was recognised for his contribution to the business, commitment to continuous improvement and strong leadership qualities. As the youngest person to hold his role, he has built a reputation as a skilled and dependable professional who supports colleagues while driving positive change.

Michael said: “It’s a real honour to be recognised as part of the Hull & Humber Top 30 Under 30 Class of 2026. The programme has been a fantastic experience, giving me the opportunity to learn from other professionals, develop my leadership skills and gain new perspectives that I can bring back into my role.

“I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout my career so far, and I’d encourage anyone thinking about nominating a colleague to do so. The programme offers a great opportunity for personal and professional development, and I’m proud to have been part of it.”

Edward Arnott, Energy Operations Director for British Steel and Michael’s nominator, said: “I nominated Michael because of his technical capability, but also his standout contribution as the youngest person to hold this role. I also emphasised Michael’s leadership qualities, his commitment to developing others and his strong drive to improve, which has shaped much of his work.

“Michael’s commitment to innovation and excellence exemplifies the talent we’re developing across our business. We’re delighted to see his hard work celebrated, and his drive to improve is evident in everything he does.
