This week, British Steel attended a special event at the Houses of Parliament to highlight the vital role constructional steel plays in the UK economy.
The event brought together British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) members, contractors, clients and MPs, including Blair McDougall MP – Minister for Reindustrialisation.
Together they discussed how constructional steel drives economic growth, strengthens domestic supply chains and supports the UK’s reindustrialisation efforts.
Lisa Coulson, our Chief Commercial Officer, spoke at the event, delivering the message that British Steel has a pathway to a sustainable, long-term future.
She said: “There is now broad recognition that steel is not simply another commodity. It is fundamental to our infrastructure, economy, and national resilience.”
Lisa spoke about the demand for steel in the UK increasing over the next 20 years, and the importance of that demand being met by British producers, contractors, and fabricators.
Our products support buildings, schools, hospitals, transport projects and other essential areas that keep the country functioning and to do this British Steel is committed to working with all stakeholders,
Lisa said: “Together, we can do more than secure a steelworks. We can help reindustrialise Britain and build a competitive, lower-carbon and resilient steel industry capable of supporting the next generation of infrastructure and manufacturing.”
Phil Knowles, British Steel Commercial Director for Construction, said: “We’re proud to have supported this event and will continue to highlight the importance of the role British Steel, other UK steelmakers and UK fabricators play in the UK construction sector.
“We would like to thank the BCSA for today’s event.”
