Armed Forces Covenant

British Steel has signed the Armed Forces Covenant.

This reaffirms our commitment to fairness and equal opportunities, and helps us continue to nurture an inclusive workplace.

Carl Willerton, Recruitment Manager, said: “People from the Armed Forces community bring so many strengths, including leadership, resilience, teamwork, problem‑solving and a solid work ethic. Veterans offer real‑world experience, reservists bring continuous training and discipline, and military families are adaptable and dedicated.

“These qualities make our teams stronger, and we want to make sure everyone from this community feels supported and appreciated.”

Some of the ways we’re proud to support our armed forces community include supporting reservists with flexible working where possible so they can train and deploy when needed; offering fair, inclusive recruitment for veterans and service leavers, making sure their skills are recognised and understood; and raising awareness across the business about the Armed Forces community and helping to create a positive and supportive culture.

Carl added: “Signing the Covenant is a genuine commitment to fairness and respect. Everyone can play a part by learning about the unique experiences and strengths of the Armed Forces community, supporting colleagues who served or have served and getting involved in upcoming events and initiatives.”
