Today the Government has announced its new Northern Growth Strategy, facilitating faster rail links, shorter commutes and better jobs for communities across the North of England. From upgrading tracks and catenaries to updating stations, British Steel is ready to work with Government to deliver this project and create a lasting legacy for the North of England.

The strategy is an example of how British-made steel underpins major national infrastructure, supporting jobs and communities, across the UK. Which is why we welcomed Rachel Reeve’s comments at Labour Party conference last year, promoting the use of British-made steel in public sector contracts.

To boost support for this critical sector, British Steel also recently launched our “Save Steel Buy British” campaign with Community.

We’re calling for mayors and industry leaders to pledge their support for British-made steel and the vital role it plays in promoting national resilience. It’s been great to see the response so far, with figures such as Luke Myer MP, Sir Nic Dakin, Luke Campbell, Ben Houchen Claire Ward and Andrea Jenkyns setting out their support for secure, sovereign steelmaking.

Britain’s steel producers and their workforces need consistent political and commercial support. Visit Save Steel Buy British to learn more and join the campaign.
