Are you ready to take the first step towards an exciting career in engineering?
We’re thrilled to announce new apprenticeship opportunities at our Scunthorpe, Teesside and Skinningrove sites.
At British Steel, we’re passionate about developing the next generation of talent. Our Engineering Apprenticeship Programme offers you the chance to earn while you learn, combining practical, hands-on experience with fully funded training and nationally recognised qualifications. With a progressive salary from the national minimum wage for an apprentice, this is your opportunity to build a rewarding career in one of the UK’s most vital industries.
We’re looking for applicants who are hard-working and eager to learn. To apply, you will need a minimum of 3 GCSEs (Grade 4 or above) in Maths, English and Science, as well as a positive attitude and ambition to succeed.
Our programme provides the perfect blend of classroom learning and real-world experience. You’ll start with training from our training provider before moving into plant-based roles in areas such as:
Steelmaking (Scunthorpe only)
Ironmaking (Scunthorpe only)
Energy and Infrastructure (Scunthorpe only)
Mills (including Northern Mills for Teesside and Skinningrove)
You’ll work alongside experienced professionals, gaining the skills and knowledge needed to make a real impact on our business.
As an apprentice at British Steel, you’ll enjoy benefits such as 35 days’ holiday (including bank holidays), a company pension scheme, a health cash plan and Employee Assistance Programme, and all safety clothing provided. You will also be granted access to discounts at local businesses. Finally, when you complete your apprenticeship, our aim is to offer you a permanent role within our engineering team.
Applications are now open and close on 16 February 2026. Don’t miss your chance to join a company that’s shaping the future of steelmaking.
